For seven months in 1904, St. Louis hosted the largest World’s Fair in history. Over twenty million people from all over the world came to The Fair. The event promoted St. Louis as a modern 20th Century city. Over 120 years later, the Fair still impacts the St. Louis region. This new
exhibit, at the Missouri History Museum, will make you wish you had been there for sure. We will visit this exhibit, examine actual artifacts from the Fair, see Fair film footage, listen to popular music of the day, compare 1904 prices to those of today, and much more.
We will take a driving tour of Forest Park and neighboring areas to view sites of the Fair. See sculptures, buildings and artifacts left from the Fair. Hear unusual and interesting facts and stories about the Fair. Leave the bus to enjoy the scenery at the World’s Fair Pavilion.
Our included lunch will be at any of the 20 or so food stalls at the very popular New/Od Foundry in downtown St. Louis.
After lunch, we will continue our driving tour of Washington University, site of the Third Modern Olympiad and see artifacts left from the Olympics.
We will tour University City’s unique City Hall building. Atop City Hall, during the Fair, revolved the world’s largest searchlight, attracting fairgoers to E. G. Lewis’s tent city. Good stories here!
